Paint refurbishment and repair projects on planes, rail cars, ships, bridges, and in confined spaces often require both HEPA dust collection for lead paint removal, or nuisance dust such as blast media, and air scrubbing for paint fumes (VOCs).
The BlueSky Sentinel dry scrubber offers a combined solution to handle airborne dust and gaseous filtration in one configurable system which is easy and safe to use in the field. The modularity allows for a machine to have filtration stages added or removed as your project's needs shift overtime.
Another benefit of modularity is rapid mobilization and maintenance. All systems are configured from core components kept in stock within our rental fleet with no delay.
That means, for example, if something happens onsite, BlueSky can simply lift out the out-of-service component, and replace it without a technician troubleshooting during valuable project time.

True HEPA Negative Air Containment and Gas Scrubbing during Nuclear D&D, Delta Junction, Alaska
A 14,000SCFM Sentinel™ Dry Scrubber system was used to establish negative air pressure on a large containment, to capture asbestos and radiated dust, and to remove ammonia gas released during the Nuclear D&D of an old reactor vessel and spent fuel pit. The complete system was DOP tested onsite at >99.99% @0.3 microns through Nucon International.
Hazardous Dust/Fume Applications
Let's say for example, that your project involves stripping lead chromate paint, metal cutting and welding generating fume, and off-gassing from re-painting (VOCs).
A BlueSky Sentinel™ dry scrubber system is configured to have multi-stage filtration by combining True HEPA (99.97% at 0.3 μm) with specially blended GAC (granular activated carbon) SmartBox® module(s), creating an all in one, high flow-volume system for your project.
Each SmartBox® module fully encapsulates the filters and/or GAC internally, meaning that no worker EVER comes in contact with captured contaminants during filter or GAC bed replacement and disposal.
Non-Hazardous Dust/Fume Applications
For non-hazardous projects, captured dust is knocked off the filters by the Pulse&Shake™ filter cleaning JetPack™ module, and falls down into bulk bags or drums beneath the machine, avoiding the need for an auger or eductor systems that need frequent maintenance.
During operation, the contaminated air first passes through particulate filtration, and is then percolated through a large impregnated, granular activated carbon (GAC) bed to adsorb the gaseous contaminants such as Ammonia, VOCs, and H2S. The Sentinel™ Dry Scrubber system’s modularity allows residence time to be tailored by adding or removing GAC SmartBox® modules, which is determined by the inlet concentrations of gaseous contaminants expected, temperature, humidity, and the required outlet concentrations.
How does a BlueSky Sentinel dry scrubber work?
The most basic BlueSky Sentinel dry scrubber consists of 4 key stages in series, which can be scaled based on the project needs.
1. HEPA pre-filtration stage - Captures all airborne dust or fume particulate and maintains the effectiveness of the GAC SmartBox® module(s)
2. Gaseous contaminant removal stage - Specially formulated GAC blend based on gas-type to capture and neutralize (scrub) contaminant(s)
3. HEPA post-filtration stage - Ensures that the machine experiences zero particulate emissions (>99.99%)
4. TurboBox™ module - VFD and PLC controlled induced airflow, capable of up to 18" W.C. negative pressure
Note: All stages are modular, and separable based on job-site requirements (see second rendering). Configurations shown are assembled with components ready to mobilize, and fully stocked in our rental fleet.
